Forget Christmas, move over Easter, our favourite food centric celebration has arrived. Pancake day comes but once a year, and we have rounded up some of the best places in the city centre to enjoy these delicious treats.
Alabama's the American institution on Tariff Street knows pancakes better than anyone. Their stacks are the stuff of legend and if you're looking for the classic American buttermilk pancake, fluffy in the centre with a perfect brown crisp then look no further. Our favourite has to be the banoffee pancakes, which as you can imagine, are unbelievably delicious. Alabama' is staying open late only on pancake day so everyone can enjoy their stacks.
The place that gives us warm and fuzzy feelings every time we think about it, you may already know it for having one of the best dessert selections in the city, but these guys know pancakes. American inspired again; these fluffy buttermilks are served in stacks of three. And our favourite? It's like choosing your favourite child, but the cinnamon crunch, maple syrup and whipped cream has to be it or no maybe the banana, Nutella and salted caramel or maybe...
You may recognise Evelyn's as we penned it as one of the best brunch spots in the city with its stylish design and thoughtfully created menu. It's the perfect place to spend a Saturday morning, and you can tell that they are taking things seriously this pancake day creating some specialist pancake dishes to choose from. Evelyn's is another one who is following the American route offering up buttermilk stacks this time with fresh berries and honeycomb butter! Heaven does exist.
When you say pancakes to anyone in Manchester, you will probably think of Moose Coffee. These guys serve up pancakes all day every day but are going all out this pancake day, with not only the regular three stacks but extreme stacks and a speciality curated Shrove Tuesday menu. It's a Canadian diner so you can enjoy the traditional maple syrup and butter option, but why not go all out with their 'extreme' option and enjoy the towering chocolate, peanut butter, banana and pecan!
You may be used to enjoying an espresso martini here but did you know that the Pen and Pencil also have a delicious brunch menu? With you guessed it pancakes! You can enjoy their traditional option but I don't know why you would when you can have a boozy version served up with run & raisin caramel sauce, grilled bananas and pecan nuts. Does this count as one of our five a day?
